PETI will vote on the draft opinion by Eleonora Evi (EDFF) on the ENVI own-initiative report "EU options for improving access to medicines". The draft opinion concerns particularly important issues in this field such as the insufficient access to essential medicinal products, principally the high cost of medicines, combined with reduced public health resources available in Member States as a result of the economic crisis in Europe.
It also wishes to draw attention to the large number of European citizens affected by the problem and to address certain important factors which influence the access to medicines, such as the current lack of affordability and availability of medicines or the scale of Member States' support for research and development (R&D).
